Torrential Downpours Creates Problems in Home
Severe rainstorms are a common cause of damage to New England homes. When torrential downpours happen it is important to check your roof for leaks after each one. Even if you have a roof in good condition, wind can drive water between roof shingles and a significant amount can seep between shingles and through the decking. The leak that caused this water-logged ceiling was pretty significant.
The entire ceiling started to bow with the weight of the moisture, and is near collapse. It needed to be removed in order to properly dry out the space. In the second picture showing work in progress, you can see that the ceiling and most of the insulation have been removed. Once the remaining insulation is removed by hand, we place drying equipment in the room. It is essential to dry the framing quickly and professionally to prevent microbial growth and keep this property mold free.
